TPS65721: Charging_Status_TPS65721

Part Number: TPS65721
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27426

Hi,

The part   TPS65721 will be able to provide status of battery during charging and during field use.

Regards,

Akshay

  • Akshay,

I am sorry, but I do not understand the question.

Please refer to the TPS65721 datasheet and let me know if you have any questions about the Register Map.

CHGSTATUS is Register 0x01, which indicates the Battery Charger Status of the device in real time.

  • Hi Brain,

    Thanks for your reply

I was checking if i am able to capture the percentage of the fuel gauge at different battery levels or can we provide any indications while charging the battery & its full charge using the CHGSTATUS Registers.

    Regards,

    Akshay

  • Akshay,

The TPS65721 does not have an internal fuel gauge, so if you want a full-featured gas gauge you would have to add on another IC (for example, you could use the BQ27426).

The CHGSTATUS register mostly provides warnings if something is wrong with charging or indicates that everything is OK.

    • TS_HOT TS_COLD are warnings if the battery temp sensor indicates the battery is too hot or too cold for charging
    • OVP is a warning that an overvoltage condition is present on the input (AC) and the TPS65721 is protecting the battery from this dangerous voltage
    • CH_ACTIVE is an indication that the charger is active and charging the battery, but does not indicate the current it is charging the battery at
    • CH_PGOOD is an indication that the input voltage (AC) is within an acceptable range for charging
    • CH_THLOOP is an indication that the Dynamic Power Path Management (DPPM) or Thermal Protection loop is in effect, which will reduce battery charging current until the condition is resvoled
