LP3921: Replacement of LP3921

Part Number: LP3921

Hello sir/madam,

One of my customer is using LP3921SQ for their old project and the runrate is 10Ku/Y. May I ask is there a replacement of LP3921?  When I searched for the availability of LP3921SQ, this device seems like to end production . Can the customer do the final purchasing for LP3921SQ so that they can earn time to evaluate new solutions?

Best regards,

wenting

  • Hi Wenting,

Unfortunately there is not a replacement from our team since this is a unique battery charger device with an integrated audio amplifier. It may be worth asking the APP-BMS-BCP (battery charger product line) if they have anything similar.

I will point out that the LP3921SQ is actually NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs), meaning customer can continue to purchase and use the LP3921SQ on their old project. If they are starting a new project or design, the LP3921SQE would be recommended since it is still Active status - is there a reason the customer does not want to use this version?

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hello Copeland,

Thanks for your quick reply.. The customer can use LP3921SQE. but the customer still has some concerns. May i check again with you?

    1. the life time of LP3921SQE

    2. The storage of LP3921SQE whether it is enough or not?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Wenting,

Can you confirm if the customer is creating a new design?

This is an old, legacy device for which TI has limited documentation. As such, troubleshooting and debug of new designs cannot be supported, resulting in the NRND status of some versions. Having said that:

    1. There are no plans to End of Life (EOL) this device. Customers can continue with existing, working designs and purchases.
    2. Can you explain what you mean by "The storage of LP3921SQE"?

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hello Copeland,

    1. It's a old design. Do you have some recommendation for their new design?

    2. I want to check is there a risk to meet LP3921SQE out of stock.

    Best regards,

    wenting

  • Hi Wenting,

    1. If it's an old design that has been proven to work, the customer can continue to use the LP3921. As mentioned, this device is quite unique as far as PMICs (7 LDOs + audio amplifier), so the Integrated Power Management (IPM) team does not have a newer version of this device.

    • Please consider checking with TI's Battery Charger Products (BCP) team.
    • Alternatively, there may be a newer PMIC that the customer could pair with a discrete audio amplifier. If this is acceptable, can you please share the application's power requirements?

    2. TI will continue to build units for this device as needed by customers. However, it looks like this device is not readily stocked by distributors. The customer should work directly with TI for shipments.

    Thanks,

    Gerard
