TPS74801: TPS748 Drop out voltage

Part Number: TPS74801

HI Team,

Datasheet shows that the VIN dropout max value is 165mV under 1.5A output current, so how about the max value when output current is 0.75A?

I also see another pic shows that the dropout voltage seems like linear with the output current as below, so can I have the max Vin dropout value is half of 165mV if output current is half of 1.5A?

Thanks!

Zhizhao

  • Hi Zhizhao,

The internal pass element is a MOSFET, so the dropout voltage is just the load current * Rds_on.
The Rds_on value is approximately linear as you see in figure 5.
If your load current is 50% of the max load, then yes you can take the 165mV and divide it in half to obtain the dropout voltage.

For 750mA you can use 82.5mV as the max dropout voltage.

    Thanks,
