TPS7A45: What Does "7A" Signify in TPS7Axx Series of Linear Regulators

Part Number: TPS7A45

Hi,

What does the "7A" signify in the TPS7Axx series of linear voltage regulators (e.g. TPS7A45xx) ?  Does it signify a common process, feature, etc?

Thanks,

  • Hey Jack,

It doesn't mean too much. Mostly it's because we ran out of numbers for the TPS7xx scheme. So, generally, these parts are newer.

  • Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your quick reply.  The reason we are asking is because we have done some qualification testing for some of the non "7A" parts, so we are trying to determine how the "7A" parts might differ with respect to the process and design.  If the "7A" parts are different with respect to process and design, then we most likely will need to perform more qualification testing on the "7A" parts.  Just trying to avoid unnecessary work, time and $$$ on our end.

When you say it doesn't mean much, can you share how much it might mean - tolerance, package, thermal performance, anything.  And, when you indicate they are newer parts, is there a date you can share when the "7A" parts became available?

One way you might be able to answer my questions is how your field sales folks were pitching the new "7A" parts to customers, e.g., value propositions.

    Thanks for your help..

  • Hey Jack,

We'd have to look at it on a case-by-case basis. Regarding process, it really runs the gamut for any given TPS7xx part.

Generally speaking, most of our TPS7Axx devices are on LBC7, LBC8 or LBC9 but that's not absolute.

If you have specific cases you want to check, that's something we can probably help with. Just shoot me a note at apaxton@ti.com

  • Hi Aaron,

Ok, I'll try and identify some specific part numbers and get back with you.  I also have a couple of more similar questions about some other parts.  I'll send these questions to your e-mail address.

    I appreciate your help.

    Regards,
