TLV62130: TLV62130 shot issue

Part Number: TLV62130

Dear Team

Good day!

Our customer use the TLV62130 in their application , there are 2 devices are burning when they working , the customer check their board and found There's something wrong with the  SS/TR pin cap welding , it is floating , it cause the SS/TR pin floating .

They want to confirm whether the SS/TR pin can be float , does it the reason which cause the device burning

Best regards

Leon.liu

  • Hi Leon,

    I have some questions.

Leaving SS/TR pin open should provide fastest startup behavior but it increase the inrush current depending on the output cap and load requirement at startup. Out of how many boards are you observing this failure? Does the board work again after replacing with a new IC? Is the failure reproducible each time you replace with new IC without an SS cap? Does the issue get fixed with a SS cap installed? When do you observe the failure - is it working for a while or immediately fails on startup or at shutdown?

In addition, can you please share the VIN range, VOUT, IOUT of this application and a schematic and layout if possible.

    Regards,

    Amod

  • Hi Amod

    Good day

I am sorry that we are in holiday for these days.

For the query , please refer to the reply below

1.How many boards are you observing this failure?
    A:1
2.Does the board work again after replacing with a new IC?
    A:No
3.Is the failure reproducible each time you replace with new IC without an SS cap?
    A:No
4.Does the issue get fixed with a SS cap installed?
A:Not yet , because there are no spare devices at present.
5.When do you observe the failure - is it working for a while or immediately fails on startup or at shutdown?
    A: working  for a while
6.can you please share the VIN range, VOUT, IOUT of this application and a schematic and layout if possible?
A: Vin=4.6V,the Vin is supplied by SMPS
           Vout=3.7V,Iout current is small ,
           Layout is link here:

  • Hi Leon,

Please provide scope captures of the input, output, and SS/TR pin current & voltage during the failure if possible. A few notes about the schematic you provided:

    - LL2 is not needed for this device

    - ceramic capacitor recommendations at the input and output can be found in Section 9.2.2.3.2 of the datasheet. These ceramic caps are recommended in addition to the high ESR cap shown in your schematic.

    Best,

    Emily

  • Hi Emily

    Good day

For the query , because the customer only have 2 device which had been burned (in 2000 samples ) , it can not test the voltage wave during the failure , because up till now, this problem had not been repeated.

For the LL2 , it is NC now.

For the cap issue , I will inform the customer ,

For this query , I had discuss it with the customer , I think the major probability matter is welding . But the customer want to confirm that , if left the the SS/TR pin float ,is there any possibility of damage?

    Best regards

    Leon.liu

  • Hi Leon,

Leaving the SS/TR pin floating on the device will provide the fastest startup behavior and should not damage the device as long as the Iout is not significant. Per Section 8.3.2 of the datasheet, if the device is set to shutdown (EN=GND), undervoltage lockout or thermal shutdown, an internal resistor pulls the SS/TR pin down to ensure a proper low level.

    Best,

    Emily
