PTN78060W: Converter to drive a 12V/2A compressor

Hi Team,

A customer is looking for a converter that can drive a 12V/2A compressor from a 20V battery which can handle inrush current above 3A. Is the PTN78060W or
PTN78020W capable of driving the compressor?

I think TI has many converters that can handle that kind of load.

You can check the TI website for more information.

The best plan would be to purchase an EVM for the device you select and test with your load.

Hi Danilo,

The PTN78060W should be okay handling such conditions.
The device has an internal soft-start circuitry thereby limiting the amount of in-rush current that can be drawn from the input source.

Make sure that the input voltage of the module (battery voltage) stays above the minimum input voltage of 14.5V (Vout +2.5 V).
