DCR010503: Determine the maximum Tj for DCR010503U

Genius 9880 points

Part Number: DCR010503

Hi Team,

We received a query from customer asking for the maximum operational thermal diode junction temperature (Tj).

For me to not miss any information, I will copy the statement below.

"The datasheet specifies a maximum operating temperature of 85°C … this may be the ambient temperature … it appears this circuit has a thermal protection circuit that activates at 150°C and deactivates at 130°C. I need to know the maximum operational thermal diode junction temperature (Tj)  to  ensure performance within specifications."

Thank you and looking forward for your kind response.

Regards,

Maynard

  • Hello

I will find the responsible engineer and get back to you as soon as possible.

    Thanks

  • Hello

The 85C specification is the maximum ambient temperature that the device should be operated under.

This will be your governing specification for the application.

If the junction temperature exceeds the thermal limit set point, the device will shut down.

Be sure the you have adequate copper heat sink area, and follow all of the PCB layout recommendations in the data sheet.

The best way to determine if the application is within safe limits, is to test your design

under the exact conditions that will be found in the final application.  If the thermal

shutdown is not activated, then you can assume a safe design.

Raising your ambient temperature above your design limit will allow you to determine how

much margin is available in your design.

    Thanks
