BQ24650EVM-639: Using this IC EVM with BQ76920EVM or BQ4050EVM

Part Number: BQ24650EVM-639
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24650, BQ76920, BQ76920EVM, BQ4050

I am trying to design a system with 3 series cells with charging ability.

I tried using the BQ24650 charging IC with BQ76920EVM but the thermistor timing of the BQ76920 is unknown.

If I used BQ4050 with BQ24650, should I still have to worry about thermistor timing?

Also, is there any design examples using BQ4050 with BQ24650 or any other charging IC that support MPPT?

  • Hi Seong,

As this is a standalone charger, SMBus communication from the gauge cannot configure the charger parameters. As the charger already has an inbuilt TS pin designed for use with external thermistor to sense battery temperature on this TS pin, I would recommend using the thermistor with the charger. This way you can configure HOT/COLD thresholds (refer to datasheet on how) and if the battery temperature violates the specific operating temperature range, then the charger will turn off and indicate a fault condition.

For BQ4050 gauge question, please create a separate post with that part number and the experts supporting the gauge products will be able to answer your questions.
