Dear TI Engineering Team,
As per the thread title, the LM76005 IC of the evaluation board instantly blew up when connected to a high voltage Lithium Ion battery at 50V with no load connected for the output open circuit test. Is there anyone who can share some insights as to what might have caused the problem and how to resolve this issue.
The input voltage to the evaluation board is well within the rated limit of the IC but it still blew up. When testing it using a power supply unit with lower input voltage of 24V, the board seemed to be working fine with both loaded and no load tests. Would this simply due to the initial spike of inrush current from the battery? Even so, shouldn't the built-in overcurrent protection protocol be activated to mitigate this from happening? Or is it because of the overshoot voltage during the instant when the board is connected to the battery? Could by extending the soft-start time of the IC by placing a capacitor at the SS/TRK pin be able to resolve this issue (however, from the datasheet of the LM76005, the soft-start feature seems to be achieved if and only if the device is turned on, but in this case the device instantly blew up when power supply from the battery is connected to it which making it impossible to enable the soft-start feature of the device)?
