TPS27S100: Current Limit Less than 500mA

Part Number: TPS27S100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1H000-Q1, TPS1H200A-Q1

Hi team,

for some design requirements, I need to use a single channel FET with currente sense output and external current limited set to 300mA (<500mA).

I have seen that no TEXAS device has both, so I focused on using the TPS27S100B.

For this device, however, the use with external limitation current > = 500mA is specified in the datasheet.

Can you tell me if I can use it without problems at a current of 300mA and I would also like to know what limit tolerances I should expect?

If it is not compatible with my specifications, could you possibly indicate a replacement that allows me to do what is requested?

Many Thanks.

Ivan

  • Hi Ivan,

It is possible to use the TPS27S100 device at lower current limits.

The device can accept lower current limit settings but the accuracy of the current limit will suffer. We do not spec the accuracy in this region.

For such low current limits we usually offer devices like TPS1H000-Q1 and TPS1H200A-Q1 but these do not have a current sense output.

Another non-conventional option is to use TPS4H160 but only use one of the channels as the higher R_on parts will have better accuracy at lower currents.
