TPS54140: switching from TPS54040? ECO MODE to normal mode?

Part Number: TPS54140
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54040

Hi,

On the board there is a dual USB HUB powered by DC DC TPS54040; external bulk capacitors carry excessive inrush which I cannot control via soft start. Is it possible to use the TPS54140 model 1: 1?

Should the compensation be reformulated?
I believe that working at lower currents (normal operation), compared to the smaller twin (TPS54040), TPS54140 will work in eco mode. What does it involve?
EMI noise, or possibly reactivity times to be verified by switching from eco mode to normal mode?

Many Thanks,

Antonio

  • Hello

It think that it should be OK to substitute one regulator for the other.  The major difference is the current rating.

You will probably have to adjust the inductor value and the compensation.

You should use either the Webench tool or the component calculator on the web page to help

    with your design.

    Thanks
