TPS54340: Webench vs Family Design Excel Tool

Part Number: TPS54340
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54361, TPS54360

Hi Team,

There is two tools to simulate app's phase margin at product folder in TI.com.
Which tool should be recommended?

I need to answer to my customer why we recommend the tool so please tell me following points also.

I want to know;
Which one we can a more accurate result.
What are the differences between the these simulation models

1. Webench
2. TPS54360 and TPS54361 Family Design Excel Tool (Rev. E)

  • Hello

I believe that the calculator spreadsheet on the product page would be the

    most reliable calculation.

There will always be differences between the simulation model, the Webench model, the calculator tool, and the real performance of the device.

These difference reflect the limitations of the different methods used to make the calculations.

The simulation model can be used to make quick changes to the design and see the results.

Webench is used to create an initial design.

The spreadsheet tool can also be used for experimenting with design values and is faster than a simulation.

    Thanks

  • Hi Frank-san,

Thanks for your prompt response on this and I understood that Spreadsheet should be recommended for better estimation. But we should note that they are just "calculation" tool for quick launch.

    One quick question.

For example, we have recently started offering PSpice as well, but which tool's results should be used to determine the final circuit constants to fix?

  • Hello

I would use the calculator spreadsheet for the final design and test on bench.

The best thing is to use the EVM to verify on the bench over temperature and input voltage and load.

    Thanks
