LMZ20501: LMZ20501 current consumption

Part Number: LMZ20501
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM82822

HI Guys

LMZ20501  drawing too much current. The product is a battery driven device that needs to be shut down while in transit and storage. The LMZ20501 that we are using is meant to draw at most 620uA (according to the datasheet) while enabled in forced PWM mode, however I am getting around 5mA. This is with the load disconnected. Schematic below.

Could you advise what we can do to get this current consumption down to the 620uA please?

Thanks

Rodney

  • Hi Rodney,

This sounds reasonable.  The Iq is just the current used to bias the IC--it does not include the current into the power stage.  This app note explains more:

Can they turn off the DC/DC while in transit?

Or, do they need the forced PWM mode?

We also have the newer, smaller, cheaper TPSM82822.
