TPS7H2201-SP: Low current limit levels with TPS7H2201

Part Number: TPS7H2201-SP

So you're saying that when using TPS7H2201 at low currents, I can set the current limit at a low value, RIL=1Meg for example, but the actual current limit will be 0.5A?

  • Hi David,

I think I see where the confusion is coming from. The minimum value the current limit can be set to (for loads ≤ 1 A) is Iout + 0.5A. This means RIL will need to be less than 91kOhms or 98 kOhms (depending on VIN).

The current limit for a given value of RIL can be calculated using equation 7 or 8 in section 8.3.3 in the datasheet (I've included a screenshot below for convenience). According to these equations, setting RIL=1MEG would ideally result in a current limit of 0.0455 A or 0.049A (depending on what VIN you are using), however, this would violate the minimum current limit setting mentioned earlier.

    Hope this helps,
