BQ27541-V200: BQ27541-V200

Part Number: BQ27541-V200

We are using Gauge Studio to programme a new golden image on the BQ27541DRZT-V200 devices.

Two Scenarios:

1: We have devices with years of field service returning with swollen LiFePO4 batteries.

We replace the battery with a smalle capacity battery and update the device with a new golden image. During the loading phase the device freezes. The only way forward is to replace the device.

2: During loading of the golden image on brand new devices, the device freeze and again: The only way forward is to replace the device.

I am looking for a tool or a procedure to unfreeze the device.

I am also looking for help on how to avoid them from freezing.

We have been using this programmer and the same procedure for years - Why now that we have built a new golden image for the smaller battery do we have this problem?

  • Hello Willie,

Is the freeze occurring to all the gauges or only some? Can you share both files so we can compare and take a look?

Usually a freeze can occur if the file is corrupted or, or the memory locations are not compatible. Try re-creating the golden image to make sure it is not corrupt.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt

It only occurs on older gauges when loading the newer image.

Normal production bathes works fine (New device with new image)

Immediately after switching to ROM mode, the device stops responding.

The only way forward is to replace the device.

I am looking for tools that will enable me to recover the device - not to replace it.

Alternatively to prepare the device beforehand to avoid it from freezing.

    Sincerely,

    Willie van Wyk

  • Hello Willie,

If the gauges memory is corrupted you will not be able to recover it. It can happen from power interruption during programming, trying the program a new firmware to an old gauge using the .gg file, or corrupted golden image.

So no commands are executed before it stops responding? In ROM mode the gauge address changes to 0x16, does it respond to that address?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt

Good news: The device is responding when reading at address 16 - Start Register 08.

The result is consistantly A3 DA.

    Sincerely,

    Willie van Wyk

  • Hello Willie,

in ROM mode the gauge uses different commands than in normal operation.

You can reference this other post for how to enter and exit the ROM mode: e2e.ti.com/.../2680481
