LM73606-Q1: Can the two output terminals of LM73606 be directly connected in parallel to improve the current output capability?

Part Number: LM73606-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM73606, LMZ23608

HI Team.

Can the two output terminals of LM73606 be directly connected in parallel to improve the current output capability?

  • Hi Amelie,

I would not recommend doing this since there is no way to equally distribute the current loads per path. Say you had two LM73606 in parallel and pulling 12A at the connected output; one of the current paths could be pulling 8A while the other path pulls 4A. This would result in the LM73606 hitting an overcurrent condition.

Because of this, it is usually recommended to use components that have current sharing capability as part of the device features.

For example, please take a look at the LMZ23608 power module (integrated inductor and power MOSFETs) with share pin for this exact application.
