BQ25015: Converter Query

Part Number: BQ25015

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Just like to confirm the following regarding the DC-DC converter of BQ25015:

1) If I connect the input to a 5V USB source, then the charge process will be enabled. I´d like to know what happens with the DC/DC down converter when this input has no power, i.e., when the USB source is not connected to it. Will the down converter work?

2) When I remove the USB power, will the DC/DC converter continue working with the battery connected as the chip enters in sleep mode ?

Thanks for the clarification!

Art

  • Art,

When the adapter is not present, the DC/DC converter is not active.

    Thanks,

    Ricardo

  • Hello Ricardo,

    Thanks for the clarification.

    There are additional questions though.

    1) Kindly help to clarify in table 2, page 13 of datasheet, where charge done status , input power state is "not reported " ? What does it mean ?

    2) I will use USB power. Can I keep the pin PG output floating ? Or shall I connect it to a resistor to ground ?

    3) is the VIN In formula 11 the voltage VGS ?

    4) Can I use AC and USB interchangeably? I.e, can I use AC connected to 5V USB Power source? The reason is that I want to use PG PIN to Control a switch and according to spec doc, PG goes low only when AC Power input os detected.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Art,

To clarify Ricardo's initial statement, the DCDC will only be disabled if the USB is absent as well as the battery. If the battery is present, the DCDC is active.

    1) This means that the STAT pins in this mode does not reflect whether the input supply is present or not since no charge is occurring.

    2) If PG will not be used, you can leave floating since it is open drain.

    3) VIN is the input voltage to the charger.

    4) Yes, you can use them interchangeably but keep in mind functions of ISET and ISET2
