The TPS60240 has a buck-boost, but is the operation during step-down the same as that of a linear regulator?

Not exactly. The device does not stop switching, but the efficiency is at the end similar to a linear regulator efficiency.

Hello Brigitte,

Is it possible to prove from the structure that the output current from the Vout pin does not exceed the input current to the Vin pin, like a linear regulator?

You mean when VIN is above VOUT, correct? I need to check with the designer.

In the case when VIN is smaller than VOUT, the input current is bigger than the output current.

Hello user6483867,

The device is permanently operating as voltage doubler and then dissipating the not needed power, so the input current is in all cases a little more than twice the output current.
