TPS65132S: Control signal level when no VIN

Part Number: TPS65132S

Dear team,

When there is no VIN, is the input of the control signal(EN,SYNC,SDA,SCL) possible?

Regards,
PAN-M

  • Hello PAN-M,

It is not recommended to apply control signals without Vin present.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Liaqat,

Is the external isolation device necessary?
This device is not use when external device is necessary.

I think that I do not have any problem if it is the voltage within the absolute maximum rating, is it wrong?

    Best Regards,
    PAN-M

  • Hi PAN-M,

I can not comment on whether an external isolation device is necessary. What I can say is that when voltage are applied to the control pins without power supply being present, there is a possibility of current path existing from control signal pins to power supply pins through esd protection diodes. How much current flows will depend system power supply scheme. So there is no straight forward answer. By the way, these concerns are not specific to TPS65132S but are general to all devices.

    Kind Regards,

    Liaqat

  • Hi Liaqat,

    Thank you for comment.

    >there is a possibility of current path existing from control signal pins to power supply pins through esd protection diodes.
This is system problem, so may I think that a device does not have the problem?
Is the ESD diode broken? The tolerance level (forward direction? signal input level H to VDD) of the ESD diode?

    Best Regards,
    PAN-M

  • Hello,

It is a system problem in  way but if the current is excessive through the esd diode, it is possible that it can get damaged.  Sorry but I don't have the exact details of at what point the diode may get damaged. Yes, the concern is from H signal level to VDD.

    Kind Regards,

    Liaqat

  • Hi,

    I understood.
The ESD diode is high voltage, but thinks that the current is small.
I think that it do not have any problem if the high level current of the control signal is small.
