TL4242: R_REF = 0Ω for max current

Part Number: TL4242

The datasheet mentions an I_qmax of 600mA when R_REF = 0Ω.  Is this an acceptable thing to do?  My application needs about 500mA (600 would be acceptable).  However, I cannot use a low-side current sense so I cannot use the TL4242 as that seems to be required.  However, if I can simply connect REF to GND I will have no current sense to worry about.  If this gives me a 600mA output and will not harm the driver, I may be in luck with this part.

  • Hi David,

We would not recommend connecting the "REF" pin to the "GND" due to the thermal and reliability concern. TPS92613 is the high side current source which can also support up to 600mA application. I believe this would be a good option for you.
