TPS3701: Voltage monitor from DC/DC converter

Part Number: TPS3701
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM25085,

Hello team,

Customer is considering TPS3701 for 5V output monitor(UV, OV) from LM25085.

  • VMON : 5V output
  • VDD : 16V which is input for LM25085
  • OUTA and B go to RT pin of LM25085

They are wondering that the above circuit might not boot up.

Do you have any idea for 5V output monitoring(UV, OV) from LM25085 ?

Thank you and best regards,

Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

Yes, the customer is correct.  The circuit will not boot up because the output of LM25085 determines the input RT pin's status of LM25085.  I do not believe there is a solution where the output of LM25085 can be monitored to turn itself on or off.

  • Hello Ben,

Are there any voltage monitoring devices with UVLO function ?

If it has UVLO function, the output from voltage monitoring devices would be delay.

Once input voltage ramp up to 16V , TPS3701 could monitor OV and UV for the output from LM25085.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

Is it possible for you to draw out the schematic?  I am having a hard time picturing what you are describing.  Are you suggesting using two TPS3701 devices where one of them monitors the 16V rail while the other one monitors the output of the buck regulator?  If that is the case, then yes, you can do it that way but I maybe you can use a different voltage supervisor to monitor the output.
