TPS61160: Ripple current

Part Number: TPS61160

Hi team,

Please see 8.2.3 Li-Ion Driver for 6 White LEDs in datasheet. Input voltage is 3V to 5V. Inductance is 10uH. Io=20mA. Vo=19V.

According to the calculating results in following picture, the ripple current of inductor is 0.33A, which is larger than 2*0.13A. So the circuit works at DCM mode in this situation.

However, the input current in fig. 26 is continuous. Why?

  • Hi Naizeng,

For actual application, there is parasitic inductance and resistance from power supply to input of device, combined with Cin, input current is filtered. To furtherly verify the result, I have a simulation. The first one is without parasitic inductance and resistance, and the second one is w/ parasitic inductance and resistance.
