BQ24072: charging 3.7V battery

Part Number: BQ24072
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25155, BQ25120A, BQ25150, BQ21061

Hi TI team,

I have got a question about bq24072 device. I wanna use it with 3.7V Li-on battery, but the charger goes up to 4.2V.

Is it possible to somehow low the target voltage to 3.7V, so the battery will not be stressed toot much?

Thank You very much and have a nice day,

Štěpán Šípal

  • Hi Štěpán,

Li-Ion batteries typically have a charge voltage that is a bit higher than their nominal voltage. If there is a datasheet for the battery, the information for charging the battery should be there baesed on the manufacturer's recommendations.

If a 3.7V charge voltage is in fact needed, the BQ2407x family currently does not support that charge voltage. BQ25120A, BQ25150, BQ25155, and BQ21061 are devices that can be configured for for battery charging at 3.7V.
