TPS61222: DCDC with the latch protection at short circuit

Hi, Team,

Now my customer is searching buck DCDC part with the latch protection at overcurrent(Vo shorted to GND).

The spec requested of IC is;

VIN range= max 6V,  Programmable VO= 2.4 ～ 3.3V , Iomax=50mA

Do you have any recommended part?

    Hi Hidekazu,

    It seems there is no low voltage buck converter that has a latch over current protection.

    Is peak current limit protection enough for your application?

    No,  Customer is searching for the low power DCDC that has the latch-off operation when the short circuit on VOUT happened.

    Is there any good external circuit application to add the function like that?

    Hi Hidekazu,

    It's difficult to add an external circuit to support latch-off function at short circuit condition because it needs to monitor to signals simultaneously (Vout and Iout) to avoid any false triggering. 

    There are a mid-Vin buck converter with latch-off current limit protection (ex. TPS54J060, 6-A) which you can consider. Another possible option is to add a load switch after the low voltage buck converter which will serve as a current limit protection. You can check TPS22951 (see the description below) if it fits the customer application.
