UCC28610: How to implement PSR by UCC28610?

Part Number: UCC28610
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28742, UCC28740, UCC28704, TL431

Hi there,

My customer knows that there are PSR Flyback solutions in TI, but my customer would still like to know if it is possible to implement PSR by UCC28610.

According to the datasheet, FB pins only senses current, then, how should I connect FB pin to aux winding rather than photo coupler?

  • Hi Charles,

I am looping in an appreciate expert to support you on this post, Please expect a response by end of day Friday at the latest.

  • Hello,

The UCC28610 is a primary side regulated flyback controller that uses the aux winding to sense the output voltage through the auxiliary to secondary turns ratio.

If you require an opto coupler for feedback I would suggest using the UCC28740 or UCC28742 instead.  The device are valley switched and have a similar control law to the UCC28610.

    Regards,

  • Hi Mike,

    Thanks for your reply.

I think UCC28610 is a SSR controller, I am not if there is anything I misunderstand here.

So for my question,  is it possible to implement PSR control method by a SSR controller by modifying the external circuit?

  • Hello,

It is possible to regulate the UCC28610 from the primary.

You can do this but still will require extra circuitry to do this.  For example you could move the opto ant TL431 to the primary and regulated the VDD voltage of the UCC28610.  However, this will not reduce the cost of your circuit and you might be better choosing a device that was designed for PSR control like the UCC28704.
