UCD90320: AMON and ENABLEs used independently?

Part Number: UCD90320
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA4180,

We would like to use the UCD90320 to sequence enable outputs, but use the AMON inputs for independent analog monitoring, not associated with rails.  In other words, can we use the device to simply monitor various analog voltage levels without being tied to any rail logic?  Example: We will go through an initial power regulator sequence using the enable outputs.  At a certain point in the sequence, we would like to then monitor current levels from various sensors (using INA4180 current sense amplifier outputs connected to various AMON inputs) and independently make specific system gain adjustments that will affect those current levels..  Once the monitored currents are at the required levels, then further power regulators will be turned on by sequencing more enable outputs.  The control of the system gain functions, that affect the current levels being monitored through the sensors at the AMON inputs, are independently controlled outside of the UCD90320.  In this example case, we simply want to use the UCD90320 to independently monitor those current levels via our sensors and be able to read those levels through the PMB bus as part of an overall control function from our main system CPU.  i.e., can the AMON inputs be logically independent of any rail logic in the UCD90320?

  • Hello

Quote your below comments: who is controlling the further power regulars? is this from UCD90320? it seems some logic here.

"Once the monitored currents are at the required levels, then further power regulators will be turned on by sequencing more enable outputs."

UCD90320 provides three GPO outputs: the first is called rail ENABLE, if the rail has both MONx and RAIL ENABLE, they can be separated if fault response is not set for the given MONx, the 2nd  is logic controlled GPO which is configurable based on rail/GPI/other GPO, the last one is called commanded GPO which is controlled by PMBUS command.

  • Yihe,

The further power regulators would be controlled by enables from the UCD.  We have to intervene during the power up sequence with controlling gain functions, etc., before power can be applied to the next regulators in the series.  So there would be logical stops in the enable process waiting on external functions before moving on to the next set of enables.

    Thanks for responding -
