TLV62566: Short Circuit Protection

Part Number: TLV62566
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV62565

Hello E2E,

I was looking through the DS of the TLV62566 for a customer and was trying to determine the current protection scheme after a short.  It appears from figure 21 that the device is entering into a hiccup type of protection but I'm curious if you can go into details as far as the mechanism for how this works.

Thanks!

Russell

  • Hi Russell,

TLV62565 will not go into hiccup mode during overload and short circuit conditions. Instead, it will work almost the same as constant current limit protection, although it is not regulating the average inductor current but the valley current. You can refer to the link on the blog below for a detailed explanation.

In case your customer observed that the device goes on and off, then it goes into thermal shutdown during a short circuit event. The device recovers when the Tj drops below Tjsd - Hysteresis.

    Best regards,

    Excel
