TPS25924: What happens with no external capacitance?

Part Number: TPS25924

Hello Guys,

The datasheet of the TPS259241DRCR device uses 1uF as the lowest output capacitance. Low output capacitance means lower inrush current and lower power loss. Does this would also mean a lower load resistance can be implemented?

Can we use output capacitance lower than 1uF or even removed the output capacitor entirely? Will there be any instability incurred in doing so?

Thanks!

Art

  • Hi Art,

As per the datasheet lowest recommended value of cap can be 0.1uF. It is recommended to use the cap values as per the datasheet for stable operation.

Yes it is true that lower output cap will lead to lower inrush current .The output load resistance also plays a role in deciding power consumption with its value inversely proportional to power consumption. So if power reduction is needed output cap can be reduced and load resistance can be increased.
