UCD74120: Internal connection between AGND and PGND

Part Number: UCD74120
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ31710

Hi,

In the datasheet of UCD74120, it is recommended to connect analog ground (AGND) and power ground (PGND) at one point near AGND pin. These are my doubts:

(1) Is AGND pin connected to PGND pins internal to the IC? If yes, then it becomes a similar case like that of the power module LMZ31710. In the datasheet of LMZ31710, it is written that "Keep AGND separate from PGND, as a single connection is made internal to the device." If there is no internal connection between AGND and PGND, then I understand. If there is an internal connection, why the analog ground and power ground connection recommendations are opposite for UCD74120 and LMZ31710?

(2) In the circuit schematic of UCD74120 for the EVM of "EVMK2HX_ K2H_evm (Rev4)", all PGND pins and AGND pin are connected to one common ground plane as shown below. Why aren't they separated as recommended in the datasheet? Can we follow the grounding technique used in this EVM?

Thanks,

Binayak
