TPS65084: schematic check

Part Number: TPS65084
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD87381P, CSD87588N, TPS650941EVM-116

Hi Sir,

The customer want to know if the schematic is correct and any modify or suggestion, thanks for your great support.

  • Hi Tommy,

Thank you for posting. I did quick review based on the schematic checklist, which I recommend customer also to use for layout: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slva733

    I would recommend:

    1. Setting C373 to not-populated by default
    2. Setting C387 to not-populated by default
Didn't find much on the web for EMB02K03HP but generally warn that the efficiency is typically a few percent lower compared to TI FETs. If it is similar to FDMS3660S, then I would estimate about 5% lower efficiency than CSD87588N @ 5A, 2% lower efficiency @ 11A. The smaller CSD87381P  would also be expected to have higher efficiency until about 8A.
    1. I did not check ILIM calculations for non-TI FETs
    • Recommend not-populated for the snubber circuits by default

Overall the schematic closely resembles the Intel reference design which is good. If a layout review is desired, I will require that the layout checklist be filled out and completed with any questions included.

  • Hi Kevin,

thanks for your great help and reply, if there are any problem, we will learn from you again, thanks.

  • Hi Kevin,

may we know and learn from you,

Can the TPS650842 be place on TPS650941EVM-116 board to verify whether the output is normal, and no need command require under the default value?

  • Hello,

A TPS650842 should work on a TPS650941EVM-116 with the following changes:

    Uninstall R36 & Install R37 (BUCKX_1P8V is different for TPS650941 vs. TPS650842)

    Uninstall R49 (SWB1 and SWB2 are separate in TPS650842)

    Uninstall R67, Install R68 (GPO4 pull-up, probably doesn't matter)

There are a few other changes but I don't expect they would affect functionality:

R26, R35 - ILIM1 & ILIM2 will be wrong, but higher so that should be fine.

BUCK2 output capacitance is higher than needed but that should be fine.

BUCK2 inductor is a 220 nH instead of 330 nH but that should not have a major impact.
