TPS53511: VFB and VO connection

Part Number: TPS53511

Hi,

Can I connect VFB and VO to different point?

VO connect to local output CAP and VFB to remote side (far from VO).

Please see attached circuit.

Yes, you can, and if there is a significant amount of distribution path between the local VOUT and the remote Vout, I would recommend it.

Assuming there is some distribution inductance between the two, and a second set of bypass capacitors at Vout Remote, I would recommend adding a small (10-50 ohm) resistance between Vremote and R1, and a place for a capacitor from VO to R1.  That provides a resistance path to FB from Vout Remote for accuracy DC regulation with a capacitive path back to FB from the local Vout in case there is too much distribution phase delay between the local and remote to maintain a stable loop.

Have a very happy Holidays, and a wonderful New Year.

  • Hi Miller,

    Thanks for your feedback.

What small resister (10~50ohm) location you suggest to put on?

Close to IC side (R1) or put on remote side?

  • Hi

Our US team will feedback to you after holiday. Thanks.

    Thanks,

    Ruby

Placing the resistor at the remote side will make routing easier, and it will provide a node break between the remote output voltage and the sense feedback path so that layout tools will prevent any accidental shorts with the local Vout.  From a performance point of view, local or remote does not make much difference, so whatever makes layout easier works.
