TPS22964C: Question about OCP protection behave

Part Number: TPS22964C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22948, TPS22919, TPS22958, TPS2553, TPS22950

Hi team,

My customer is asking TPS22964C output short protection behavior.

Could you advise the OCP function operation?

And when OCP condition is disappeared, does TPS22964C re-enable again or just latch off?

Thanks

  • Hi Paul,

Have you tagged the correct device? TPS22964C has no over current protection. This device has reverse current blocking.

Devices like TPS22948 and TPS22919 are examples of devices with some form of over current protection by way of either a current limit or short circuit proection.

  • Shreyas,

Thanks for clarifying TPS22964C OCP function, Now I understood there is no OCP function in this device.

As my customer requested 3A load switch like as TPS255xx. So I tried to check our suitable solutions.

And I proposed TPS22958 & TPS22964C. Obviously TPS22964C is not ok to design.

So do you have any further suggestion?

    Thanks

  • Hi Paul,

Are you referring to TPS2553? I believe this is a USB switch which our devices are not. Which device are you referring to when you say TPS255xx?

While we do offer many load switches that can handle 3A, there are not many with integrated protection. The closest switch off the top of my head would be TPS22950 which is rated for 2.7A continuous but can set current limits up to 3.5A.

I think you may have to look at our High Side Switch portfolio which has more integrated protection features like adjustable current limit and thermal shutdown. Please find the portfolio here:  https://www.ti.com/power-management/power-switches/high-side-switches/overview.html

As a suggestion, I think TPS1H100 may work if you are running at 5V.
