BQ24166: Output only works when IN voltage is between 4.5 to 5.1V

Hello,

My setup parameters are:

Iset=1A

Iinlim=2A

Iusblim=1.5A

Vindpm=4.4V (26.7k/10k)

I have no battery connected.

When I connect 5V to the USB input the output voltage is 4.3V

When I connect 6-8V to the IN input, the output voltage is about 1V

I did find by testing different voltages that the output will come on when the Vin is between 4.5 and 5.1 V. Just above 5.1 V the voltage randomly jumps a bit but never comes up.

The with Vusb, the output will work between 4.4 and 5.3V but then it drops out in a similar way above 5.3V.

Any suggestions what to change to get Vin to work to about 9V?

Hi Cam,

The USB input has max OVP at 6.5V and should work normally up to that voltage. The IN input has 10.5V OVP and should work up to that voltage. The lower end is likely hitting VINDPM. Can you post your schematic and scope shot showing SW, SYS and BAT voltages when you see the problem?
