48V to 12V Buck solution in server application

Hello expert,

My customer is searching for 48V->12V power solution in server application. More and more server application is using 48V as their power supply, they are wondering if we have solution could convert 48V to 12V then they can follow old design as 12V PSU system. Thanks a lot!

Hi Ann,

This depends on the current requirement. Take a look at the LM5145 75V controller as an example. The EVM is setup for 5V/20A but could be changed to 12V with suitable modification of the inductor, output caps and compensation design.

Hello Tim,

Based on 12V PSU design, 500W/800W/1200W/1600W has been used in their application. May I know if we have solution could cover it?

For LM5145, may I know the maximum output power rating for it? Thanks a lot!

Hi Ann,

A single-phase controller like the LM5145 could do ~20A. This depends on the selected power stage components, maximum ambient temperature and airflow, etc.

For higher currents, please consider the LM5143 as that can be configured as a 2/3/4-phase solution.
