TPS62090: Understanding of the SW Node

Part Number: TPS62090
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62203

Hi Team,

I found Application Report SLVA494A about the rating of SW Node.

I would like to know two things.

①What is the current rating of the body diode?

Is it the same as the SW current limit spec of the IC?

 TPS62090: max 5.5A

 TPS62203: max 670mA

②I would like to know what is the upper FET breakdown voltage.

I think the allowable undershoot is determined by the current rating of the body diode and the withstand voltage of the upper FET.

(Supply voltage - undershoot voltage is applied to the upper FET)

Best Regards,

Kenji

  • Hi Kenji,

    Thank you for your question.

TI doesn't share these information with the customers. However for a standard design you can consider:

1: The current rating of the body diode to be equal to the SW current limit (the current through the body diode flows only for a short time interval, so it shouldn't cause you any problem).

2:The allowable undershoot/overshoot to be the one indicated in Absolute Maximum Ratings in the datasheet. If in the datasheet are specified only the DC values, you shouldn't worry about the AC spikes; provided a good layout, they should be within the FET breakdown voltage.

Please ask again if you have any more questions.

    Thanks,

    Stefano
