BQ24157: Charge current

Part Number: BQ24157
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25618

Hi All,

In one of our projects, BQ24175 was used for the sub battery charging.

While the capacity of sub battery is 215mAh, and the maximum charging current according to the battery specification is 1.0C, which is 215mA. But the  minimum charging current of BQ24157 is 550mA according to the datasheet. I want to know if this is design is ok, or if you have other better suggestions.

I added the screenshoot of spec and u can check it.

Kind Regards

  • Hi Lumina,

    There are two options to lower the charge current.

    1. Increase the sense resistor so that the fixed offset = 37.4mV gives 215mA -> Rsns=37.4mV/215mA=174 mohm

    2. Use the LOW_CHRG bit in REG05b 5 to lower the fixed offset to 22.1mV -> Rsns=22.1mV/0.215mA =103mohm.

    Or you could change to a newer charger like BQ25618/9.

    Regards,

    Jeff
