BQ24251: BQ24251 TS pin

Part Number: BQ24251

I am trying to connect my lithium ion battery with packp and packn connections to the bq24251. However, on the bq24251 datasheet there is a layout that suggests using a battery that has a thermistor which then connects to the TS pin. I have tried testing the charger on a breadboard using my battery and leaving the TS pin open and it seems to work correctly. Is it alright to leave the TS pin open? Or is there an alternative method I should use when using a battery without a thermistor.

  • Hi Tara,

If left floating, the TS pin should pull to ground, which will make the charger think that the battery is too HOT.  If your TS pin is floating to ~ 1/2 the LDO voltage, then the charger is fooled into thinking the battery is okay.  If you don't want to use the TS feature, you can disable using an equal sized resistor divider from LDO to TS to GND or you can disable using the TS pin disable register bit.

    Regards,
