SN75453B: Is their a Quad version of this IC and in an SMT package?

Part Number: SN75453B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPL7407LA, DS3668, ULN2003A

Hello.

We have been using the SN75453 controlling 2 channels with loads drawing no more than 30 mA and running at 36 Hz with 50% duty cycle. We now need to expand and add 2 further channels. Therefore we would like to know if there is a Quad solution available to drive 4 channels via an open collector transistor accommodating load currents of 30 mA AND furthermore if this is available as an SMT package rather than the through hole package. / Many thanks for your help / Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, we do not have a part like this but with more channels. The closest multi-channel alternatives are the ULN/ULQ family like ULN2003 and TPL7407LA which are 7-ch darlington pairs and 7-ch NMOS array respectively.

  • Dear Shreyas,

Thank you for your response. In the interim I found the TI part DS3668. This seems to be a Quad driver but I am not sure what the resistance of the open collector to ground will be compare to the 75453.

Do you think operation using the DS3668 would equal the 75453 as my application is only for low speed (typically 10 to 40 Hz).

    Many thanks

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

I took a look at the device and to me, I think using the TPL7407LA would be a better option. This is a 7-ch NMOS array rated up to 30V with an integrated clamp much like this device. You can drive the channels in parallel to increase the current per channel. Similarly, you can use ULN2003A in this fashion as well.

The switching speed of these devices are faster too.

I think DS2668 might also work as long as the current sinking through each channel is less than 600mA.
