TPS62366A: Fixed On-time? TPS62366A & TPS62866

Part Number: TPS62366A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62866

I have a question about the operation of TPS 62866 and TPS 62366 A.
I think both are DCS-Control methods.
Are both fixed on time?

For TPS62866
www.ti.com/.../tps62866.pdf

Equation (1) on page 10 states that the On time is determined by the ratio of Vin to Vout.
As a result of actual measurement, it was confirmed that the value close to this equation was almost constant.

For TPS62366 A
www.tij.co.jp/.../tps62366a.pdf

According to Equation (3) on page 12, it is stated that the On time is determined by the ratio of Vin to Vout, but it actually varies depending on the load conditions.

Are these 2 ICs different in system?
Isn't TPS62366 A fixed on time?

  • Hi User,

Yes, both devices use DCS-Control, which is a constant on time topology.

The on time varies with Vin and Vout.  The switching frequency varies with load, when the device enters PFM.

Please use the newer, smaller, more efficient TPS62866/9 family for new designs.
