TPS56339: IC and Protection diode burn out when i was connected DC power adapter(Vin=19V,Iout=4.47A)

Part Number: TPS56339

Hello,

I have tried to follow the recommended circuit layout as closely as possible.

I am using the TPS56339DDCR buck converter in a custom circuit where circuit is design for 19V to 2.00V @ 4A with WEBENCH Power Designer. But i found the TPS56339DDCR would be damaged as well as input protection diode D1(D20V0L1B2WS-7) also burn out when DC power adapter(Vin=19V,Iout=4.47A) connect to the input(This happened without any load at Vout). An image of the circuit design is attached.Could you give some advice please? Please let me know as soon as possible if any solution found.

Thank You.

  • Hi,

TPS56339 is 3A device , not suggest to use larger than 3A.

Could you help check what' the max loading ?

  • Hello,

My maximum output loading current is required in mA only but at input side we required higher voltage and current because it is used in our device and also this circuit is used to switch off the device supply.

So, any extra circuit required like protection circuit or fuse something like that?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

could you help capture the VIN pin voltage without bandwidth limitation to check the VIN pin spike ?

For TPS56339 , the max recommended operating voltage is 24V . You can reserve the protection diode with higher breakdown voltage like 24/26v.

  • Hello,

We got solution after replace diode D1 with populate two Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor(UWX1H100MCL1GB ) (10uF+10uF, 50V) which is connected in parallel. So can you just let me know IC TPS56339 required this Aluminum Electrolytic capacitor at input side compulsory? because TPS56339 reference design they have not mention to add this kind of extra capacitor.

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Normally no need this kind of cap, you can follow the chapter 8.2.2.5 Input Capacitor Selection , to select this cap.

Only need to consider the derated value of cap at the voltage stressed.
