BQ24259: dropped in replacement ?

Part Number: BQ24259
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24296M, BQ24296

Team,

Since BQ24259 (1A) is not available we are looking for a dropped-in replacement.

Are there any BQ242xx derivatives that can be used as dropped-in replacement?
If not what would be the closest and what HW change would be required?

Would  SW changes be required? Which device will require the less SW changes?

Thanks advance!

A.

  • Hi,

We do not have lower current version of the BQ24259. Referring to 8.3.3.1 Autonomous Charging Cycle on the d/s, the charger device may complete a charging cycle without host involvement with the default charging parameters listed in Table 3.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Ning,

In this case there is a host connected on I2C.

Can the BQ24296M /BQ24296 replace the BQ24259 (ie just dropped-in place of the BQ24259) and be setup to provide the same charging profile that BQ24259 was using?

Can the charging profile be re-used or should a new profile be created with the BQ24296M/BQ24296 assuming the same battery model is being used?

    Thanks in advance,

    A.

  • Hi,

The three devices are basically pin-2-pin compatible. The host may customize the charging parameters via I2C.

    Thanks,

    Ning.
