TPS40210: AC input TIDA-00227

Part Number: TPS40210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00227,

Hi,

I have implemented the TIDA-00227 into this ongoing project and it is working great for 32VDC-125VDC input. The application note mentioned AC input is compatible and I have tried inputting 50Vac. With the current probe on the active line, the current spike when loading is 5Apeak especially on the 0 crossing of the AC line and the power supply is just starting up.

Would it be possible to adjust the controller to not conduct during these zero crossing point?. I dont want to increase the input capacitance and I was hoping their is a clever way to go around the issue.

I am thinking of nacking the controller not to conduct during these zero crossing using a combination of opto and use it to stop oscillator. Our application is charging a cap bank periodically and this periodic loss of switching is acceptable.

Primarily our product accept DC input only, Our sales suggested that it would be good if we can input AC as well.
