UCC27531-Q1: MOSFET Gate Driver

Part Number: UCC27531-Q1

Hi,

I am Using Gate Driver  UCC27531-Q1 to drive MOSFET PMV50XNEA (as a switch).

The circuit as shown below.

Input will be driven by controller.

Source - D5V0

Gate - Output of Gate Driver

Drain - Output (5V or 0V based on controller input).

Do you see any ambiguity in the circuit? Does it work?

Thanks and Regards,

Pedaiah G.

  • Hi, Pedaiah,

It looks like that should work. Only potential issue I see is you will be applying -7V gate-to-source on the MOSFET when it's turned off. As long as the gate is rated for that voltage, you should be fine.

  • Hello Don Dapkus,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

The MOSFET characterstics shown below in image.

    Vgs(th) = 0.9V

I have simulated the above circuit in pspice. The DSN file attached.

I am not getting expected results. The switch is always ON weather input HIGH or LOW to Gate driver.

Does my connections are correct? or Do i need to swap Drain and source terminals?

    Request your suggestion.

  • Hello Pedaiah,

I am not able to open your zip file but from the schematic, can you confirm voltage on the source D5V0, I am assuming this is 0V.

What voltage are applying on IN from controller? please confirm signals on your sim are all within the recommended operating conditions.

The MOSFET has very low Vgs threshold, you may not even more than 12V at the gate, from the d/s 6 to 8V from gate to source should be sufficient rds,on.

  • Hello Mamadou,

The Voltage on the source D5V0 net is 5V input and drain 5V_NIGHT_LED is the output given to LEDs.

I am applying 3.3V (HIGH) and 0V (LOW) to Gate driver IN from Microcontroller.

I am not able to insert Simulation file here. Could you please share your mail id,so that i will share my simulation ?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Pedaiah G

  • Hello Pedaiah,

I am sending you a friend request where you can share your simulation "result".

Meanwhile, I will mark this thread as "resolved".
