TPS62088: Negative output ?

Can the TPS62088 be configured to generate a negative output? If possible can you provide a reference schematic?

Vin = 3.3V

Vout = -2.8V minimum

Iout = ~100mA

I"m currently using the LM27761, but am wondering if it's possible to shrink the footprint even further.

Hi Roy,

TPS62088 can be configured to operate on inverting buck-boost converter to generate a negative output voltage. Please see below reference schematic diagram below.

However, in your application (Vin_system = 3.3V, Vo = -2.8V), the voltage impress across the VIN pin of the IC will be 6.1V. And this will exceed the absolute max rating of the VIN of the IC. Hence, the TPS62088 cannot suit your application.

Hi Roy,

A possible solution is to use a device with higher VIN capability. TPS82130 has an input voltage range of 3.0V to 11.5V, and it can support up to 1.5A depending on the supply voltage. The total solution area is < 50mm^2. Please see the reference design in the link below.

Hi Excel,

The TPS82130 looks interesting, but with a 2.8x3mm footprint it is far too large for my application.

Understood. It seems we don't have a mid-Vin part (>6V) in a smaller package/solution size, so we don't have an alternative to meet your application requirements. In that case, I will close this thread.
