LM61460: Efficiency at low load profiles

Part Number: LM61460

Hi Team,

On the 61460 do we have any info on low load profiles? how is it efficiency wise, at very low load currents around 100 uA?

Regards,

RJ

  • Hi RJ,

Depending on which variant of this device you have, the efficiency at light load will be different. The FPWM variant (FS) will have lower efficiency than the Auto Mode variant (AS).

The datasheet provides guidance on the expected efficiency for common output voltages (3.3V, 5V, etc.).

For example, refer to Figure 35 and Figure 36. Figure 35 is the AS variant so in order to highlight the high efficiency at light load the curve is in logarithmic scale.

Figure 36 is the AF variant for FPWM and will have significantly lowered efficiency with the benefit of having a fixed switching frequency.

A common battery input application (13.5V) for a 3.3Vout application at 1mA (lowest current measured) is roughly ~88%.

Though it is not measured here you could expect efficiency at 100uA (0.1mA) to be somewhere around ~87-88% efficiency as well.

    Regards,

    Jimmy
