BQ25730: 24V Vin system availability

Hi Team,

I'm just looking for back-boost battery charger IC which can support 24V input for input in charging and have a capable 24V output in non-charging condition.

Can BQ25730 be used in such a way? Also, can it be used in a 24V rail system without any issue?

Let me know if there is other suitable device for such the use case.

Hi Takashi,

The BQ25730's maximum VSYS_MIN setting is 23 V, so the charger will not be able to regulate VSYS = 24V.

I don't think a buck-boost charger is required for your application. A traditional topology buck charger has VSYS = VBUS, so with a 24V adapter, VSYS will also be close to 24V. The article below compares several charging architectures:

Can you describe your requirements in more detail? What is your battery charge voltage and charge current? Are you looking for a standalone or host-controlled charger? This information will help determine the most suitable charger for your application.
