BQ24735EVM-710: Max input voltage discrepancy

Part Number: BQ24735EVM-710
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24735

The listed input range max for this EVM design is 24V, yet it appears that this will exceed the Recommended Operating Conditions Max of 22V.

The device max is 30V with 24V listed as nominal VCC. What is the reason the EVM is listed Max 22V?

One of our designs used the EVM design verbatim, and I want to make sure we are not exceeding spec using a standard 24V supply.

The AC/DC supply coming into this design has an adjustable output range of 22.8V to 26.4V.

  • Hi Jim,

It is fine to use a 24 V input, but the ACDET resistor divider values must be adjusted accordingly such that 2.4 V < ACDET < 3.15 V.

The ACDET resistor divider used on the BQ24735 EVM is designed with a 19.5 V adapter in mind. If you use a 24 V input instead, then this will set ACDET to 3.21 V. Since this is higher than 3.15 V, the BQ24735 will treat this as an adapter overvoltage condition.

    Best regards,

    Angelo
