REF2041: Minimum operating voltage for VBias output only

Part Number: REF2041

In the Electrical Characteristics section of the datasheet for the REF2041, is states that "Both VREF and VBIAS have the same specifications."  In the table that follows, the dropout voltage is specified at  600mV at 20mA.  Does this mean that if one is only using 2.048V VBIAS output and  VREF is left unconnected, that it is acceptable to operate the part at 3.3V?

Thanks for your feedback,

-Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Yes, it should work in this scenario, even if it is not specified for it.

A few caveats to keep in mind:

    • Quiescent current is expected to be around three times normal due to supply voltage being below VREF.
    • Minimum supply voltage should be over 2.1V - you mentioned 3.3V so you should be fine.
      • Minimum supply voltage depends on load current, so depending on that, it can be more. See datasheet for details on dropout vs load current
