Hello Ning,

This is an extension to the previous discussion: e2e.ti.com/.../3555788

in the past 2 months we have seen a huge surge in battery packs failing to charge

Could we catch-up for a discussion over zoom or phone to help us understand the issue in more detail

    Hello Ning,

    Once the battery pack is in this state we have no way to read any registers as there is no supply to any of the I2C pull-up, Vin which connects CE and REGIN of BQ27531 is Low so I am not sure how I can read any register values from the fuel gauge when CE is low.

    We have been having this issue for over 5 months with very little resolution, Could we catch-up on a call so we can all go over this in detail and explain the issue in detail?

    Krishna,

    Is there any battery protection circuitry in between BAT pin and the battery pack or does the battery have built-in battery protection? The battery protection may disconnect the battery from the BAT pin of the charger under certain conditions. Please measure the BAT pin voltage to ground seen by the charger and compare to the battery pack terminal voltage. If the two voltages are different, the battery protection should be triggered.

    Hello Ning,

    We have gone over this discussion earlier in another chain, please find the attached pdf for a chat history.

    Yes there is a protection circuit on the battery which could have been activated but plugging the USB charger should bring it out.

    Currently the only way for us to recover for the issue is to disconnect the battery and re-connect it. Note that we did not charge the battery pack, if a protection was activated on the battery it would stay in protection mode unless the direction of the current was reversed (battery discharge to charge).

    It would be more efficient if you are available for a call. I am sure we can accommodate a time of your choosing.

    Did the host turned off the BATFET by setting BATFET_Disable (REG07[5]=1)?
