TPS6594-Q1: Which device of TPS6594-Q1 could be appropriately applicable to DRA821 Gateway Design?

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821, , TIDEP-01022, LP8764-Q1, TDA4VM, DRA829

Hi

My customer is trying to design the automotive gateway using DRA821 and TPS6594-Q1 PMIC.

The reference design is the Gateway automotive reference design TIDEP-01022 ( https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDEP-01022).

It uses single PMIC with TPS6594-Q1  and discrete Bucks even though DRA821 EVM SOM Design uses 2 PMICs (TPS6594-Q1 and LP8764-Q1).

Could you please specify which one should I recommend customer among PTPS659411FORWERQ1, PTPS659413FORWERQ1 and PTPS659414F4RWERQ1 for their gateway design if TIDEP-01022 schematic is referred?

I found TPS65941 and TPS659413 have been applied to TDA4VM and DRA829 design reference. and TPS659414 was used for DRA821 EVM.

Can I say them to use the same TPS659414 along with discrete Buck following the power supply design of DRA821 gateway up ? I asked this because the exact part number of TPS6594-Q1 was not mentioned in the document, schematic for DRA821 gateway design.

Their application does not use ASIL-B/D and MCU only mode.

In addition one more clarification needed.

Please clarify what is the major differences btw TPS 659411, TPS659413 and TPS659414.

If Device comparison table is available, It would be very helpful for customer to understand.

Thanks.

Regards, Jack Cha

  • I found the PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-J7200 supports J7200XSOMXEVM-DRA821 SOM basically.

If customer follows up the gateway reference schematic (TIDEP-01022) which uses a single PMIC TPS65941-Q1, How about PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX's change? Does Linux SDK support TIDEP-01022 board without code changes?

If the SDK' code change would be required to support TIDEP-01022, Please also guide us how to modify SDK to enable TIDEP-01022.

    My questions are below:

    1) Which TPS65941-Q1 could be appropriately applicable to DRA821 gateway design among three different part number?

    2) What's are major difference among TPS659411, TPS659413 and TPS659414. Brief comparison data would be appreciate.

    3) Does it require Code change when refers DRA821 Gateway TIDEP-01022 reference schematic which uses a single PMIC and discrete PMIC use case.? If yes, some guidance is required.

  • Hello Jack,

The recommended power design network is a function of the customer requirements.  Please work with your local TI representative and fill out a PDN questionnaire to determine which solution is appropriate.

The 3 PMIC devices you are requesting, TPS659411, TPS659413 and TPS659414, are described in the respective technical reference manuals.

    PTPS659413 and PTPS659411

    PTPS659414

Today we do not have a publicly available single PMIC solution for the DRA821.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris

    Thanks for your kind reply.

I need your double confirmation whether Processor SDK Linux version does not support TIDEP-01022 design fully or not?

If customer uses TIDEP-01022 based design, Processor SDK Linux does not work properly.

Hence some modification of the SDK would be required to enable the power management scheme fully. Please let me know my understanding is correct?

If yes, I would recommend customer to follow up the DRA821-SOM based design with two PMICs.

And ther're no official comparison data excetp datasheet/TRM to check differences btw TPS65941-Q1.

    Thanks.

    Regards, Jack Cha

  • Hi

Customer found TIDEP-01022 used PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 according to BOM list.

However I could not find the right SDK version for the board.

    https://www.ti.com/lit/df/tidm739/tidm739.pdf?ts=1617579667207&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Ftool%252FTIDEP-01022

Could you please which Processor-SDK version could be baseline for TIDEP-01022?

If customer follow up the TIDEP-01022 based design for their prototype board, I could not find out the appropricate Software version for the board.

I supposed the board porting would be required to completely support TIDEP-01022 if Processor SDK-Linux/RTOS-J7200 is the only version released for DRA821.  Please clarify SW support point of view as well when customer refers TIDEP-010222 design.

  • move to Jacinto team for the question about SDK SW modification for TIDEP-01022 reference design.

    Dear Jacinto Team,

Could you please check the question about the SDK SW modification for TIDEP-01022 reference design?

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    SI.

  • Hi,

    Is there SW for TIDEP-01022?

If not, can you provide some comments what should be modified for TIDEP-01022 design?

I'm expecting there is nothing to be modified except removing LP8764-Q1, is my assumption right?

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    SI.

  • Hi Karthik

    Thanks for your kind clarification.

We suggest Customer to make a prototype board with dual pmic solution based along with Processor SDK support. Then try to customize Power source design along with their own S/W modifications to support their own H/W design which is based on single pmic and discrete BUCKs design.

    Thanks.

    Best Regards, Jack
